So I said it. Accidentally, actually. But I had recently been thinking it.
Mona and I were talking about her meeting my family in June for my sister’s wedding. “Will your parents like me?”
“Of course, what’s not to like? You’re” X, Y and Z. “Plus, you make me happy, which will make them happy. You’re the woman I’m in love with. Also…” and I went on for another minute.
“What was that?”
I backtracked my memory as well as I could, listed stuff, “and I love you.”
No, that’s not what you said, you said “in love.”
“Oh… (deep inhale) Well, I am.”
I won’t give you the play by play. Mona knows I’ve never said that to a woman before and was taken aback. She reciprocated.
New level: Achieved.
In love. Hmmm… Damn that’s pretty damn cool.
I can say I love a woman after a few months. I LOVE many people and things: my patents, my nieces and nephews, steak, the beach, etc. You get the point.
But “IN LOVE” is deep and meaningful, a true sign of my affection and intentions for the future. My affinity, my wonder, my commitment to Mona. I’m enthralled.
What do you think about the term “in love”? Feedback?
I miss being in love.

You’re right loving others is pretty easy. Even loving others on varying levels of intimacy is fairly easy. Being in love is much more intense a level of love.

Absolutely a difference! And you, my friend, are definitely in love! And it’s a beautiful thing to read and hear you so happy and appreciative of her. I’m glad you said it to her. After a separation/divorce/break up, one really values being appreciated and loved unconditionally because they lacked it previously. You both are doing a nice job nurturing each other. 🙂

Oh yeah, “in love” is definitely different than plain ol’ loving someone. And congrats too! Seems you’ve moved to a new place in the relationship department and that’s a very good thing.
