Life

No more porn

So a year ago a friend turned his life to a monk-like existence, denying himself of distractions, addictions and (most) possessions.

One distraction he talked about was porn and masturbation.  I had read once that it’s empowering for a man to masturbate once a week if that. I can’t quote who i heard it from,  but i think it’s about holding in a man’s power energetically to keeps him sharp in the rest of the world, if you believe in that sort of thing.  And I do.

Last February or so I made a conscious effort to wind it down and now I don’t even do it once a week anymore. I don’t even miss it.  I’m 42 so that has something to do with it, maybe my hormones aren’t in hyperdrive anymore.

But a big factor was that I cut out porn completely, with a few days of giving in smattered in there.  Geez since February 2015 I guess. It’s kind of weird that I’m not a porn watcher anymore.

As a teenager,  I had my own room with a tv, and in my later teens even a VCR (this was the late 80s.)

Privacy!  I could watch anything whenever I wanted!  And every now and then a friend would have a porno movie to lend me.  They were always in circulation.

Beautiful woman!  Sex!  I wasn’t having any but these people were.

So oh yeah, it was a free for all. I eventually owned some movies and watched a LOT of porn. Often. Since probably 16 on.

Then with the Internet is the wild west of availability and it’s free and good. And yes it’s WAY more generally accepted now than our used to be.

Now my relationship life hasn’t had long term relationships, up until recently I’ve been stuck in short term mode. There’s a school of thought that watching lots of porn skews ones views of relationships.

Yes I’m dating Mona now and things look great, like I’ve turned a corner.

So I watched porn the other day just to try it out. MAN,  it does not have that hold on me anymore. There is really zero ongoing compulsion to watch it.

I’ve gone through detox and wow, compared to how I used to be, I can’t believe this.

  1. This is the stage when some look for more extreme ways to get off. I need to watch live midget porn to feel anything now.

I think the availability of porn on the internet has taken away the lust for it.
