So ok. I’m on a roll.
I receive emails weekly with new concerts listed in the NYC area. AND at the bottom of the emails, they list shows that they’re giving away tickets to so if I reply with the name of the musical act and venue, I could win free tickets.
It’s how I won tickets to Billy Idol in June. And I knew Van Halen was in town this week, so I was sure to look for the weekly email to see, and YEP Van Halen were listed in those shows for which they were offering free tix.
Oh I replied.
And oh I WON!
Mona wasn’t available so I brought a buddy who live relatively close other theatre on Long Island.
Now, their original Van Halen singer David Lee Roth is with the band these days. And their bassist has now been replaced with Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, which is messed up. But I wasn’t letting that stop me from going.
They only played songs from the original David Lee Roth days, none from their time with Sammy Hagar. But that’s all fine, I’m familiar with many of their older songs. And yes now DLR is 60. But still, it was PRETTY DAMN GOOD.
Free tix in the orchestra section, no less.
Eddie is a rock god. So many guitar solos. Man he made sounds come out of that guitar that I didn’t know guitars could make. And of course his normal guitar riffs were great too.
I love the fact that I found this type of giveaway opportunity by reading through an email, and now I’ve seen two great acts from it.
Oh yeah, I’m making it happen.
That is so awesome!! I saw them in the 1970s, when they had just begun & Eddie was a rock-god then, too!! Pretty exciting when you win something like free tickets, especially to cool events like these 🙂 Way to make it happen GR! 😉

Loving it! I had their 1st album, AND 8-track! I remember seeing them, like a century ago, in the Field House at University of Houston! Van Who?? Who are these guys?? They were insane back then, too!
